The image shows a digital screen displaying a confirmation message for race registration. The background is a dark, textured surface, possibly resembling a stone or slate, which gives a rugged and adventurous feel, fitting for a winter sports event. At the top, in small white text, it says "You're in!", conveying excitement and accomplishment. The main message is prominently displayed in large, bold white letters: "You have successfully entered the Montane Winter Spine South 2027." This text is central and draws immediate attention, emphasizing the significance of the registration. Below, in smaller white text, it reads: "Thank you Daniel for entering this race." This personal touch adds a sense of gratitude and community. The final section of text, also in smaller white, provides logistical information: "All the information you need for the race will be uploaded onto your Runner Portal. The runner portal is your one-stop-shop for getting information and updates about the event, and for managing your entry and payments." This text is practical, guiding the participant on the next steps. Overall, the image evokes a sense of anticipation and preparation for a challenging and prestigious winter race, with a focus on clarity and participant support.
Oops 🙊. Looks like I’ll be spending part of next Jan being a dot rather than dot watching. It’s only the sprint, it’ll be fine! #SpineRace #MontaneWinterSpine #running #dotwatching
Obsessively #dotwatching again. The Arc of Attrition ultra weekend is underway and the leaders in the 100 mile race have reached the wild Penwith peninsula already. Good luck to them in the stormy weather!
The very best of luck to all of those taking part in this weekends Arc of Attrition by UTMB We will be dot watching!!

The final night, still 25 people out on the course, the deadline in 08:00 for arrival in Kirk Yetholm. Come on dots, particularly the victim of a typo in the latest video: Seven Jeff (Steven) #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
He didn't make it. New backmarkers and the only cut-off left is the finish line 28 miles from Byrness. 08:00 tomorrow. #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
He made it! But now has another 12 miles to go to make Byrness by the 10:00 cut-off #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
He's 5 and a half miles away and level pegging with the virtual lantern rouge. He has to be in and out by midnight. #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
Last person is through Greenhead and at mile 209, with an ETA at Bellingham of 23:41 #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
Belligham is 224 miles in, and the current back marker is at 198 miles.
Lots of finishers now and attention turns to the back of the field and those checkpoint cutoffs. Next one is checkpoint 5 at Bellingham, which closes at midnight tonight and there are currently 37 participants yet to reach it #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching

Another couple of miles and the runner who was in second is going to find out he's actually in first #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
Eugine has left the Spine, Back to the Future Hair is set for a win. I would have been happy with either of them winning, but I have to admit the Barkley fan in me was gunning for Sebastien throughout, so I'm quietly thrilled.

Crikey, the leader has retired less than 20 miles from the finish, after over 78 hours (and almost 250 miles) of running #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
nail biting as Eugeni Roselló Solé has reached the border ridge now, not far to go! Also great to see Kevin Munt (205) is now well ahead of the red light, which I learnt is what the black marker for the slowest record is actually called

It's a shame that there've been no official updates on the @spinerace.bsky.social Bluesky.
I'm having to use an anonymous Instagram viewer as I don't have an instagram account. Even just a couple of text updates a day would be great. They'd bridge across to Mastodon too.

Yeah, it's exciting that Eugeni is motoring through the Northumbrian forests. But my full sympathies are for these guys racing the red lantern all the way back at the halfway point.

I heard this happened on Monday, mostly from social nedia posts. I'm glad sthere's now a fuller account.
The #dotwatching community that has grown up around ultras and race tracker websites is a wonderful thing to be part of, but are the risks of sharing live geo-location data for runners too much?
As well as being a phenomenal set of races, the Spine showcases some of the best British place names - first place is approaching Brownsleazes and Shitlington Hall, whilst second place is just passing through Slaggyford.
Forgive me, I am a child.

A section of a table of Chris's progress He reached CP2 (checkpoint 2) Hawes - Tue 13:38 32, "Dwell" as in he waited for 1 hour 39 minutes, a split of 14:27:19 and total on the race so far 53 hours, 38 minute and 31 seconds. Underneath in Green: "Bonus: Good Samaritan act -00:45:00"

Over 50 retirees now (and I couldn't be bothered to do my 3rd 2 mile rep today). The leader is through the 4th (of five) checkpoint having had less than 4 hours sleep, started at 08:00 on Sunday and is around 190 miles in #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching
An early release for the day 3 video and it reinforces for me absolutely not and how I would just die sliding off the trail. It's cold, it's wet, it's windy and they are going into their second night. Not for me, well done dots. #TheSpineRace #BritainsMostBrutal #DotWatching […]
Great that you have found the password.
Any chance of cross posting stuff here too. Last post was 11 hours ago.
Also what hashtag are you going to use, (please keep it simple).

Of the 153 runners lining up on the start on Sunday morning, there are 105 left.
To even contemplate starting this race, and preparing yourself for it, takes a huge committment.
Day 1 in the snow and ice was brutal, and now we have rain and winds.

Not sure, the tracking signal is often bad and drops out, they are running in hilly terrain.
I see from his ETA at Tan Hill his dot has been there a while. Maybe he has taken a rest and there is no signal so we cannot tell.
This is #dotwatching at the #spine

You never know until later!
Looking at the Spine dots, I really do miss the OS maps that are available in the UK. I really wish Portugal had similar quality maps, and similar quality (and commitment to maintenance and enforcement) of public trails....
