π Double-barred finch (Stizoptera bichenovii) The double-barred finch, also known as the owl finch, is a striking estrildid finch found in Australia. It's known for its distinctive appearance: a white face bordered by black, and white underparts with two black bars across the chest. They inhabit dry savannah, grasslands, and shrublands, often near water. Double-barred finches are gregarious, feeding on seeds and moving in flocks. Their behavior includes ground feeding and a characteristic undulating flight. Two subspecies are recognised. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) π·: Photo by Gaz_Chapp via Pixabay OMUW
