TV A two-page, Dr. Seuss–style illustrated book spread. On the left page, a worried gray elephant resembling Horton sits nervously in a nest atop a tree, clutching a scroll labeled “RULES” while balancing on a large yellow polka-dotted egg labeled “POWER.” Sweat drops fall from his face as he looks anxious.

On the right page is a rhyming poem that reads:
“I meant what I said, and I said what I meant—
The rules that you like are the ones to be bent.
A person’s a person, no matter how small—
(With proper ID, and approval, and all.)
But when ballots are cast, I start to get worried,
That turnout runs high and my margins get buried.”

At the bottom right of the page, three small Seuss-like creatures hold protest signs reading “VOTE,” “NO KINGS,” and “WHO VOTES?”

Earlier this week was Dr. Seuss Day.
Then the new war overtook it.

Still… this idea stuck with me.

Some eggs are harder to protect than others. If you don’t believe me, ask Kristi.

Dr Seuss Day: 'Without Oxford University, we don't get Dr Seuss' To coincide with Dr Seuss Day, the BBC looks back at how Oxford University helped create the icon.

It's #DRSeussDay! Dr Seuss started a doctorate at @ox.ac.uk, but left after a year. Had he stayed longer, he might have become Dr Geisel rather than Dr Seuss.
Oh, the places you'll go...

A great piece on Theodor Geisel in Oxford:

Ol’ Turnip Head’s garden of death
has been swamped by creatures still with breath.
Pribgoblins and koovras and witknocks galore,
with a few jampogers and a little more.

This is an excerpt from MAD Magazine's Dr. Seuss parody "The Cats Are All Bats: My First Book For Adults" by Larry Siegel and by Bob Clarke.

The text to this panel reads:
"Look at the hawk.
It's a hawk that can talk.
Would you like to be talked to by a hawk?
Who is he?
He's General Cole.
He has a dream,
he has a goal,
to solve a problem
that tries Man's soul.
Here is the plan
of general Cole:
He wants to blow
a great big hole
into the Earth
from Pole to Pole.
It's the Army's answer to Birth Control."

It's #DrSeuss' birthday! Here's a look at MAD Magazine's long history of Seuss parodies.

I think the first one was the 1967 article "The Cats Are All Bats: My First Book For Adults" written by Larry Siegel and illustrated by Bob Clarke. (1/7) #DrSeussDay

Today is #DrSeussDay, which always reminds me of my sister, Karen, who passed away in 2014 at age 48. She loved Dr. Seuss's books and read them to her children, who were just about to turn 12 when she died. Her favourite was Oh, the Places You'll Go! So it has a special place in my heart, too.
