TV A two-page, Dr. Seuss–style illustrated book spread. On the left page, a worried gray elephant resembling Horton sits nervously in a nest atop a tree, clutching a scroll labeled “RULES” while balancing on a large yellow polka-dotted egg labeled “POWER.” Sweat drops fall from his face as he looks anxious. On the right page is a rhyming poem that reads: “I meant what I said, and I said what I meant— The rules that you like are the ones to be bent. A person’s a person, no matter how small— (With proper ID, and approval, and all.) But when ballots are cast, I start to get worried, That turnout runs high and my margins get buried.” At the bottom right of the page, three small Seuss-like creatures hold protest signs reading “VOTE,” “NO KINGS,” and “WHO VOTES?”
Earlier this week was Dr. Seuss Day.
Then the new war overtook it.
Still… this idea stuck with me.
