Teachers and often schools have a very limited knowledge of dyslexia. Even special education staff are not adequately trained in recognizing or addressing dyslexia.

Why is reading recovery bad in general and why is it especially bad for kids with dyslexia?
Most schools don’t use Reading Recovery for struggling readers any longer. But, a few still do, so you want to pay attention and make sure your child isn’t put in Reading Recovery

It is important for parents with kids learning to read to understand automaticity.
Automaticity is being able to read a word fast, accurately and effortlessly rather than slowly sounding it out.

If your child is a new or struggling reader, the following are helpful to know:
Phonological awareness: recognition of words within sentences and counting syllables

If the vowel after the /k/ sound is an e or i, the use a k but if it’s a - u, o or a - then spell it with a C.
(Words like kangaroo and koala are derived from Australian aboriginal languages and so don’t follow this English spelling rule.)
#dyslexia #dyslexiatutor
If your child can’t remember if a word should be spelled with a C or a K if it starts with /k/ sound - here’s a cute way to help them remember:
Keep the kitten and cuddle with the cozy cat

ch: crunch, lunch, bunch, inch, bench, French, punch, grinch, ranch, mulch, arch
tch: patch, catch, pitch, witch, fetch, sketch, switch, crutch, match, hatch, itch, stretch
tip: most of the ch words have an n before the ch)
(exceptions are such, much, rich, which)
#dyslexia #dyslexiatutor
It's because if there is a consonant before the /ch/ sound, we spell it with ch. But, if there is a short vowel right before the /ch/, we spell it as tch.
Consonant before the /ch/ --> spell as ch
Short vowel before the /ch/ --> spell as tch

Words that end in ch and tch
In one syllable words like patch, fetch, crunch and grinch, the tch and ch at the end of the words sound the same, like /ch/.
Why do we spell them differently?

One way to help your child learn sight words is to write the words on an index card. Then have them draw a picture to help remember the word. Then start practicing reading the words on their cards, eventually they can cover up the picture and read them without looking. #dyslexia #dyslexiatutor
These are units, sometimes called glued sounds. They are groups of 3 letters that are pronounced a little differently than expected. They are used at the ends of words. In the Barton Reading and Spelling System they are introduced in Level 3.
