Member of the American Groundsels and Ragworts. Small yellow flower heads.
Virginia Bluebells. A right group of downward facing bell shapes flowers that are lavender.
Another great #wildflower #hike at #EagleCreekPark. It was rainy but there was plenty to see.

#Wildflower hike today in #EagleCreekPark at the Scott Starling #Nature Sanctuary.
I love walking forest trails in early spring. Early blooms are always abound like this bloodroot, not quite showing its full self - waiting for the sun to appear.

A follow-up from Sunday’s post. I biked to #EagleCreekPark again today to check on this spring’s Chorus Frogs. There were thousands. Watch this ten second video (iPhone) with volume up to get a sense of the sonic power of these little creatures. It is literally painful to stand close for very long.
Four Chorus Frogs croaking in a wetland area of #EagleCreekPark in Indianapolis. This photo was shot on March 5, 2023 and was posted to my then PostNews account. GPS (39.8600520, -86.2851298)
A sure sign of Spring, this afternoon I heard the croaking call of my very first Chorus Frog of the season while biking in #EagleCreekPark in #Indy. I’m sure by week’s end it will become a deafening cacophony. This is a photo we took on March 5, 2023 in the park. (see ALT for GPS).
An empty paved road running through a wooded area with cloudless blue sky. The tree on the right has a Coopers Hawk in it that is only noticed once the image is zoomed. GPS (39.8667976, -86.2835838)
A grainy photo of a Coopers Hawk in a bare tree. The sky is cloudless and blue. GPS (39.8667976, -86.2835838)
Two views of a single photo taken with my iPhone during yesterday’s #bike through #EagleCreekPark in #Indy. It was so nice to finally have temperatures above freezing. The Cooper’s Hawk kindly allowed me to stand and admire it for a few minutes before it flew off. 🚲
Snowy trail run - because you hate yourself, and sand isn't immediately available.

I biked this Christmas Eve afternoon in #Indy ‘s #EagleCreekPark and stopped by the Ornithology Center’s bird sanctuary overlook where I saw some American Coots (the birds not the political party! 😀)
Red Shouldered Hawk along the Eagle Creek Trail in #Indy.
There were scores of Sandhill Cranes migrating today (12/17/24) over #EagleCreekPark. I also spent some time along the Eagle Creek Trail (west of the park) visiting with this Red Shouldered #Hawk. It was just finishing up lunching on a mouse.

Biking today through Indianapolis’ crown jewel #EagleCreekPark. It’s a cyclist dream; woods, wildlife, gentle hills and curves, and a 20MPH speed limit that totally protects the safety of walkers and cyclists.
