Interested in the broad field of geodesy? Then joins us in session G6.1 "Open Session in Geodesy with a Focus on Satellite Altimetry " (meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU23/session/46219 14:00 โ 15:40)! #EGU23 #vEGU23 #EGU23_G
Poster sessions can feel eerily similar to walking in a crowded restaurant. All you want is the server (or poster presenter) to make eye contact with you and acknowledge your presence with a short nod instead of just ignoring you while you awkwardly wait beside them. #EGU23
One of my favorite things about #EGU23: so many languages!!! And for almost everyone, English is a second language (including myself) . It creates a very welcoming atmosphere where you don't feel so weird about having an accent or asking someone to repeat a sentence.
Dress code is already pretty casual in the geosciences, where hiking boots/approach shoes/running shoes are always appropriate conference footwear (and I love that), but did anyone else think that the dress code is much more informal here than at AGU? #EGU23
Mountain hydrology is not a large field. Often, people introduce and address each other just with first names, because we often know each other. It's very informal, and I love it, but maybe it also makes it feel less welcoming to those who aren't already in the bubble? #EGU23
Talks are 8 min + 2 min questions (instead of the 12 min + 3 for questions that I have seen before) and I love it! It's just long enough to have content, but not so long that you get lost in some details when your brain starts to be a bit conference-fried. #EGU23
Today's the end of #EGU23!
A wonderful week of science, connecting with colleagues and delicious pastries. To wrap it up, here's a loose collection of stuff I noticed or thought about this week.
In session GMPV8.1 we start the day with a close look at volcanic processes, tectonics and deformation (meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU23/session/45197 starting at 8:30. #EGU23 #vEGU23 #EGU23_G @EGU_GD @EGU_NHESS @EGU_TS @EGU_GMPV

As my badge can testify, #EGU23 is so awesome that I have to run with my coffee to make it to all the things I want to see.
(Also, please note the amazingly whimsical geography of my affiliation which perfectly reflects the reality of the semi-remote science of today's world)

If you want to see my attempts to look into groundwater-surface water interactions in the Langtang basin, Nepal Himalaya (in its not-inverted way), it's hanging up until the end of the day #EGU23. Tldr: It makes sense, but it's really hard to evaluate with data.
