elinor is still disoriented, asks what happened. where sanson is. he hasn't seen him since he—since he came back. guydelot grimaces, and elinor immediately knows. "please, let me—i want to see him." guydelot gets up, talks to another person, who leaves. guydelot sits back down, tries to tell elinor that sanson is okay, he doesn't blame him, but elinor shakes his head and pleads with him to stop. his stomach turns when guydelot obeys without a word. after a moment, there are footsteps, and when they both look up sanson is standing there—white bandages take up the center of his face, and peek out from under his coat, too, and even though he's smiling there's a look in his eye when he looks at elinor— elinor hunches over the opposite side of the bed and vomits.
