They can be! Slow chats sometimes work.
History at the Movies #HATM has been doing regular chats the most successfully of those I know of. @stephsukow.bsky.social ran an #engsschat last spring.
You can use the #iteach____ for any subject to find a feed of teachers of the same subject.
A?) A record of strategies that worked and a first step to starting that strategy in the fall is a gift we can help Ss give their future selves. They can use Remind or a calendar task the week before school starts in the fall to tell themselves what to set up.

A6) I wish students were not so wiped out by the school year and wanted to engage in closing rituals. My current lens is nationwide: a lot of Ss are tired.
Perhaps the willingness to close well is a better statement on the health of a school than any standardized SEL assessment?

A3) The values essay from the start of the year:
docs.google.com/presentation...
Emotions/values inventory is from Lauren Porosoff!
The annotation at the end was a guided in-class activity, so I dont have it written down.

A2) As an EF Coaching group,my colleagues and I talk a lot about transitions.
Keys to successful transitions: Anticipating challenges as well as benefits to the change, making time leading up to the transition visual/visible, & engaging in closing and opening rituals.

A1) I started & ended the year with the same values based essay. The students read their original essays & annotated them to reflect on how they had grown as thinkers and writers as well as in relation to their values.
Also: Feeding goals and tips forward via scheduled emails.

A1) There are some organizational hygiene aspects to the end of a school year that I try to attend to. Teachers and coaches can help built transitional rituals out of organizing and sorting work products and materials.

In case any #ela or #socialstudies or #humanities #teachers want to participate and didn't know, here is Q1 for this month's #engsschat!
Thanks for joining us tonight! Join us next month for another #engsschat. Keep tuning in to amazing #edchats throughout the month. #sschat #engchat #edchat
A8: One thing that I'd like to do is leave time for more revision with student writing. Revision is an important part of the writing process. #engsschat
Q8: What’s one change you'll make next year based on what you've learned about helping students transition this year? What can we do to help students academically? Socially or emotionally? #engsschat
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and great ideas. We are getting close to end! If you have any great resources to share, feel free to share them. #engsschat
Q7: How do you collaborate with colleagues (next grade level, counselors, etc.) to ease student transitions? #engsschat
Get ready to share ideas with Q6. #engsschat
A5: Endings are hard. We have a lot of senior activities to celebrate the end of the year. My favorite is post-secondary day where they wear shirts to signify schools, programs, and careers they will take on next. #engsschat
Q5: How do you make space for students to say goodbye, whether to each other, to the content, or to the year itself? What does your school community do, or what do you wish they did? #engsschat
Q5 is coming up. Let’s get ready to talk about endings. #engsschat
A4: Especially with juniors and seniors, I hope that they learn how to balance their time, set goals and deadlines, and understand that they can achieve so much. #engsschat
A4: I want students to believe in their skills. They are writers, speakers, readers, and listeners. They are capable of so much. #engsschat
Q4: What’s one lesson, habit, or mindset you hope students carry with them into the next chapter? #engsschat
Q4 is coming up! #engsschat
My seniors end the year delivering special occasion speeches. They pick the real-life occasion and give a speech to the audience of their choice. #engsschat
My juniors write the I-Search, which is a research paper about their future. They give presentations about what they've learned. It's awesome to hear about their growth. #engsschat
Q3: What assignments, projects, or activities help students reflect on their growth over the year? What do you do to celebrate endings and help students prepare for next steps? #engsschat
Let’s keep the learning going with Q3! #engsschat
A2: For Ss nervous about what’s next, I normalize those feelings, share my own experiences, and help them focus on what they can control. I also like to quote Beyoncé about her feelings of nervousness. Nerves are a good thing and mean we care. #engsschat
Q2: Transitions can be tough. How do you support students who are nervous or unsure about what comes next, whether it’s a new grade, school, or post-high school path? #engsschat
Let’s keep the conversation going and transition to Q2! #engsschat
A1: I also have students write letters to me. They reflect on what they learned, what they remember most about the class, and leave advice for future students. #engsschat
