View from the summit of Stóri Hrútur on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland. A narrow trail winds across dark volcanic gravel toward a series of old crater ridges called Langihryggur. To the right, the vast lava field from the Fagradalsfjall eruption stretches toward the ocean, while clouds cast shifting light over the rugged volcanic landscape. Three small hikers on the ridge give a sense of the immense scale.

The #eruption on the #Sundhnúkur crater row is now active only in one crater. The #lava continues to flow eastwards towards #Fagradalsfjall, but lava pools have not formed. #Air quality however remains compromised.

Lines of silver cooled lava that looks a bit like ropes. There are many glows of hot lava below the surface.
Cooled lava showing some interesting shapes, including large holy areas. In the background a small amount of red hot lava glow can be seen beneath.
The front of the lava swallows rocks and pebbles lying in its path (although some may also have been thrown on top by tourists) - hot lava spots can be seen below.
Silvery grey cooled lava surface with a large crack, through which the red hot lava below is visible.
Even when the lava looks as if it has cooled, there are some telltale signs that it is only on the surface!

Red hot lava flying upwards and outwards, with big glowing chunks. The background is grey and pinkish gases and clouds, and the dark crater rim is visible in front of and behind the lava.
When the flying lava landed on the edge of the crater there was a big booming slapping noise. Quite a remarkable experience :)

A dark volcano crater and lots of dark red/orange erupting lava - out the left side there is some lava splatter down the crater rim, and on the left there is some more orange lava being thrown into the air and a stream of lava flowing out the gap in the crater.
