it still makes me smile,
pretending to be unseen,
the nestled robin

❤️ Because my beloved Liverpool thrashed Frankfurt 1-5 in the champions league this evening I thought I’d celebrate with this beauty 🌹

This Osprey gave me a good look as it flew toward me while searching the shallows at the beach. Here you can really see the angled wings, similar to gulls, but with a lot more wingspan. The bird is looking to its left as it scans for its prey. The sky was brilliant blue for this sequence of photos. I probably took 30+ photos and selected some favorites (US spelling) to share.
Here the Osprey is pretty much directly overhead. I love how they search the feathers on the trailing edge of the wings are highlighted by the late afternoon sun. In the main post I mention the small, thin Osprey call. Much smaller birds like Blue Jays have a much more robust call. Over the years, my wife and I have grown to often hear Ospreys before we see them — their call is hard to mistake once you learn it.
As the bird glided above, a high altitude jet entered the frame. What a gorgeous bird, wings fully extended with the sun at its back.
This is admittedly a strange photo. As I reviewed my raw photos, I noticed something I’ve never seen before. If you zoom in, it looks like the Osprey is in a strange twisting movement. Also with zoom, you can see hundreds of little sparkles trailing the bird. These appear to be water droplets as the Osprey disburdened itself of water from a previous dive, while still flying. So, that all said, Ospreys are my favourite (UK spelling) bird. I give Ospreys 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(hat tip to John Green’s “The Anthropocene Reviewed” and to movie critics who preceded him)
I struggled with today’s #BirdOfTheDay #favouritebird challenge because I have fondness for many birds
Still, if I must pick, I choose the #Osprey. I love their small, thin calls. I love their angled wings. I love how they search the water for a fish flash, then dive for their meal

So @alan678.bsky.social have you got your eyes shut? 😂 A #favouritebird has to be the Kingfisher but you knew that! I was hoping to find a Malachite but you’ll have to make do with the lovely Madagascar Pygmy Kingfisher! Sorry! 😢 #EastCoastKin #photography
The fact that I’m in my early 30s and now have a favourite bird from each category is concerning to me 🪶 My ultimate favourite bird is the #whitebrowedtitwarbler and I can’t wait to photograph it one day! What’s your ultimate favourite bird?!
