A hand appeared on the railing. Sanji didn’t even have the will to act surprised as Luffy sprang up from the roots of their tree, popping up and hovering in the air for a moment before landing on his sandals on the balcony next to Sanji. “Hi!” Sanji shook his head and went back to smoking. Luffy scowled, leaning in to squint into Sanji’s face. “Hmm…” Sanji narrowed his eyes. “Whatever it is you’re thinking,” he growled, “you better stop thinking it.” Luffy laughed and hopped up to sit on the railing next to Sanji’s lean. “Nope!” Sanji grimaced. Luffy leant on his shoulder, hooking his foot around Sanji’s leg. “You’re still sad,” he said. Fuck off with this bullshit. “Stop being sad!” Sanji blew smoke right into his face. Luffy hacked, but didn’t leave. “I’m not sad,” he argued, “and even if I was, that’s not how it works.” Luffy tilted his head, hat almost falling off his head. “Is it ‘cause you miss your dad and stuff?” Sanji glared at the apartment tree across the road. “Or is it a sex thing again?” Sanji bapped him on the head. “Owie!” “It wasn’t a sex thing last time!” Sanji grit his teeth and did not think about how he totally did not fuck it up with Luffy’s work friend at his stupid party a few weeks ago. He was over it. It wasn’t worth still feeling bad about. Luffy pouted at him, rubbing his head. Sanji caught his hat before it could fall to the forest floor fifty feet below. “Useless,” he muttered, setting the string around Luffy’s neck instead of behind. Luffy rubbed his cheek on his hand as it passed, skin sticky in the humidity. “But you’re sad,” he whined harder. “I don’t like it!” Sanji’s cigarette burned his fingers. He stubbed it out on the railing and dropped it in the empty flowerpot he used as an ashtray. “It’s nothing, just…” He looked up and only saw more green. “I miss the stars, sometimes.” “Oh!” Luffy grinned. “I can fix that!” Sanji’s nerves frizzed. “How…oh, no.” Luffy’s grin turned demonic as he lassoed his arm around Sanji. “Hold on!”
