That was a lot for one cutscene, I know—but I love it for showing Delita playing people like a flute. (I also appreciate that as soon as Delita draws his sword to kill Glevanne, Orlandeu’s hand is at his own sword hilt—just in case. Don’t worry; we’ll see him in action later.)😁

Asked to name the traitorous advisor, the prisoner asks “I’d have your protection?” Delita hilariously replies: “On my honor as a knight. Speak!”
And the inevitable happens: “‘‘Twas the man who stands before me, Chancellor Glevanne.”
From there you can guess the rest—Glevanne is named and Delita goes Judge, Jury, Executioner before anyone can probe too closely. RIP buddy, but you probs were up to *something*. I also love Delita swearing “on [his] honor as a knight”—meaningless since that was part of the lie!

The prisoner answers—and lies! “No… a close advisor of Duke Goltanna’s seeking to curry Duke Larg’s favor. Heh…”
An indignant Chancellor Glevanne has stepped forward in protest. “Madness! None among us would fain betray our Duke!” Wait, I thought that was like half a court advisor’s *job*—Chancellors especially!
Glevanne runs his mouth some more: “This is clearly an attempt to undermine us by sowing mistrust!” Silence this man before he can spout more absurdities!” It doesn’t seem to have occurred to him that, if he’s right (and he is!) he’s putting a MASSIVE target on his back with this bluster.
Delita’s already set the hook though; Goltanna sternly tells Glevanne, “I would hear it none the less”. Yeah… you know where this is going.
Because it IS! Delita and his prisoner AREN’T naming Larg, but attributing it to a rogue advisor of Goltana’s! And if they didn’t already have one in mind, an irresistible target of opportunity has made itself known.

Delita puts the closing touch on his cover story: ‘Tis only by virtue of my mission that I was spared the fate of my comrades. May the Father grant them rest.”
The hooded man speaks: “Now, is it true you brought a prisoner?”
The prisoner has been brought in, kneeling in front of a guard. Delita questions him about “…the reason for your attempt on the princess.” The prisoner answers: “T’was to stain Duke Goltana’s name, by making it appear the work of his men.” Basically true, so far.
The prisoner continues: “That way he’d be kept from Lesalia and claiming the regent’s seat.” Delita: Who gave you the order? Duke Larg?” Drumroll, please…
…clear this whole thing up. Hmm? A prisoner? Well, guess he can’t tell Goltanna how he *actually* knows this… and the plot itself is being laid out exactly correctly. So why does this feel a little fishy?

Delita kneels before Duke Goltana, a white-robed advisor and blue-cassocked cleric to his left, a brown-hooded warrior and a black-haired mage to his right. The Duke: “My advisors tell me you are the one who rescued Princess Ovelia. I would have you tell me more.” Delita: “I am Delita Heiral, a Blackram lieutenant in the service of His Excellency the Baron Grimms.” So, yes, a total lie (but not like he’s gonna say “I’m best buds with a Beoulve kid”).
Delita continues: “His Excellency dispatched me to rescue the princess. And so I did, disguised as one of your own—a sheep in Lion’s clothing. Now I have returned.” So, yeah, he said ‘rescue the princess’ and I did. By myself. What, like it’s hard? I AM the reinforcements. Oh, I did dress as one of your totally awesome soldiers to do it. That’s why I’m in their clothes, no other reason.
The white-robed man and Goltana question Delita in turn: White Robes (Chancellor Glevanne): “Heiral, you say? That is not a name I’ve heard before.” Goltanna: “I had thought Baron Grimms and his Blackrams felled in battle against the Eye a fortnight past.” Oh shit! Is our boy about to get caught out? Has he told one lie to many?
NO! Delita plays his Uno Reverse card! “Indeed. That dark news spurred me to return with all the greater haste.” And since the unit was wiped out, his claim to have been a member is conveniently unfalsifiable! Genius.
Watch in awe as he spins himself a cover story that makes him look like both a loyal subject of Goltanna’s and a casual badass, with pretty much zero chance of exposure (though that nosy Chancellor seems like he could be a problem…). That done, now he can blow the lid off Larg’s plot and…

…and Ovelia *is* with him willingly. We open in Goltanna’s audience chamber, Delita having delivered her to Zeltennia. Four advisors, who I’m sure are totally unimportant, flank the center where Delita kneels and tells Goltana all about Larg’s plot… and by ‘tells’ I mean ‘lies to’.

Lionel is the final battle of Chapter 2, but after claiming the Scorpio Stone from the Cardinal of the Queklain we get to see a final cutscene where Delita gets to unfurl his manipulative wings for us onscreen. To recap: he appears to be with the Church (though the Chronicle has doubts)…

Back in Lionel Castle, talking to good ol’ Cardinal Delacroix. He gives the party an ultimatum: “Leave the auracite, and then leave Lionel. Refuse, and you will find my hospitality wanting.” Honestly, it’s an impressively ominous threat.
No, it hasn’t taken me this long to beat the second Lionel Castle battle in #FFTactics; just been busy. Come back; “Where’s the Princess?” “She’s cool with us now.” “You lie!” Then the Cardinal gets cranky ‘cause he’s overstimulated and needs his me time. (I kid; his dialogue is sinister as ever)

Gaffgarion, kneeling at low HP taunts Ramza, in front of him, saying: “I’ll tell you again: in battle, I am your better. Your birth will not avail you against my experience!” Bold words from a man at critical health, who lost most of it to a pair of counter-attacks from the opponent standing over him, and has had his sword stolen by the thief behind him, denying him use of his signature offensive technique. (He perished shortly thereafter, and nothing of value was lost)
Things actually got a tad dicey outside for a while, but only a little, and I mopped them up before turning my attention back to Gaffgarion. He remained full of himself, despite not having brought a backup sword *after I’d pulled the same trick on him at Gogollada earlier*

Ramza with Arts of War or Steal can deny big G the sword he needs to use Nightblade, then curb-stomp him. Personally, I just had Ramza as a Monk. Chakra kept me healed up, Move+2 got me down to the gate switch fast, and then my Thief ran in and yoinked his blade.

…there’s a *bunch* of possible solutions, depending on classes and abilities. Arithmeticks can heal Ramza or nuke Gaffy from outside just fine. Ignore Height or Teleport can get Ramza to the switch easily—or outside the wall to help fight Gaffy’s squad while the man himself stews.

As for the *fight*, well, the wrong class Ramza can have it rough here—Gaffy’s Nightblade is draining your HP into him without fail every turn, so you gotta either outdamage the healing and chew through his pile of HP before he kills you, outheal his damage until you can open the gate…

Agrias disdains the (offscreen) Gaffgarion’s misogyny: You seem to hold that one’s sex limits where one finds fulfillment. You find yours in selling your sword for coin, yes?
Later he gets sexist at Agrias, who responds with this rejection of traditional gender roles (with a side order of subtext… Agrias/Ovelia ‘Knight and Lady’ ship, anyone?). Gaff keeps being jerky, Agrias tells him he’s crap.
