We are saddened to report that organizers have received violent threats from anonymous registrants of the family-friendly, neighbor-led March Against the Casino tomorrow. We have reported the incident, which may increase police presence. We recognize that more police can be stressful and intimidating. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our communities and will have deescalation support present. We encourage neighbors to do what is most safe for them. We will not let hateful internet trolls skulking behind email addresses like Casino777MAXWIN@gmail.com and FLUSHINGCASINOW@gmail.com stop us from holding the march and speaking out about the impacts of a casino in Flushing Meadows. The march tomorrow will be peaceful because we believe in our democratic practices. It will be full of music, bubbles, children, and joy. It is not a place for hate-fueled threats, it’s a place for community power. We hope to see you there to stand against billionaire Steve Cohen’s casino.
