This is inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses. Echo, a talkative young nymph known for her voice, starts talking a little bit too much to the goddess Juno's hubby, Jupiter. Juno curses Echo by taking away her voice and only letting her repeat the last few words she hears...

Folktale Week 2025 Prompt: Echo Tomorrow (continued) It was beautiful weather the next day and Eleanor Sheep was so happy that she went outside and started singing at the top of her lungs, the melody echoing off the neighboring hills. Death approached. "Eleanor Sheep, I am here to take you." "Oh my, Death, I hate to point this out but you have made a little mistake. You said you would come tomorrow. See, you wrote it yourself on the door." Death looked over at the door and sure enough was the word 'Tomorrow' that he had written. "Very well, Eleanor Sheep. I will come tomorrow." And he went away. Nine of my 8”x10” prints laid out on a table in a grid to dry. They show a Yama orabi, a mythical bird like creature with an exceptionally large head and sharp pointy teeth hopping off a branch in front of a grey and blue-grey mountain at sunset in a gradient of orange, yellow and green sky.

Yama orabi- the mountain shouter is a terrifying Japanese echo yōkai. It mimics people’s yells in the mountain. It looks like a little bird with an exceptionally large head and sharp pointy teeth!

This is a grid of nine 8”x10” prints laid out to dry on a table with a cutting mat on top. The prints all have the same irregular shape printed in a gradient of orange at the bottom through yellow and green at the top. The shape looks like a horizontal rectangle with a jagged lower edge. You might correctly intuit that it’s the sky at sunset behind a (as of yet unprinted) mountain range.

Working on several new prints for #folktaleweek2025 …

A hint: a good place to find echoes is in the mountains. This first layer I made with a gel plate for the second prompt #FolktaleWeekEcho. Next up will be a #linocut.
