During the Second World War, this was called Lingga Roads, and was a crucial deepwater anchorage for the Imperial Japanese Navy, as it had been for the Dutch before them.
Lingga Roads in the Riau Islands (in red on the map) is a natural deepwater anchorage bordering #Sumatra. It is just south of #Galang Anchorage, and #Singapore. Used by the Dutch and later the Japanese, it has ease of access in all directions to critical sea lanes as well as fuel reserves.
