A flat box with about a dozen plants in varying sized plastic pots that I bought at a native plant sale today. Plants include echinachea, columbine, standing cypress, American Ginseng, guara, wooly Dutchman pipevine, chocolate flower, and a pawpaw tree. In the background there are rain barrels and a small red car in the driveway

A flower bed between my sidewalk and front porch, with a stone facing behind the bed on the front of the porch. The bed is freshly planted with young mostly native plants and mulched with red cedar. None of the plants are blooming yet. Planted from left to right: a trellis for sweet peas that haven't sprouted just yet, a yellow/pink 4 o'clocks, a red wild columbine, a plains coreopsis about to bloom (larger plant in the front, it was already in the bed), possibly a blue sage behind it? But I forgot tbh, a red standing cypress flower, an echinachea purpurea, a white guara, a rattlesnake master, more pink/yellow 4 o'clocks, a rough looking yellow false indigo that also barely survived last season's neglect, a dwarf red coneflower, a pink (pale?) echinacea, and a chocolate flower

I went to a local native plant sale (Oklahoma z7) this weekend, got a nice little haul and planted most of them in my front flower bed 🌱 plant varieties best I can remember in the alt text #GardensHour

I've been awful about posting plant pics lately. So much trouble in the world. But nature endures and that's comforting.
Here are Texas bluebonnets and Opuntia gomei 'Old Mexico' - hope they bring light to your page.

Have really enjoyed the discussions this week - I’ll try and come up with discussion style themes a bit more regularly. As always, any ideas for things to chat about, let me know! #GardensHour

Thanks very much! I’ll see you all again next Monday 👋

Thank you 🌷☺️ We were a bit early here on Southern Vancouver Island due to the mild winter #GardensHour

It’s all just patience patience patience and (now the morning temperatures are up) weeding.

Establishing something from a complete dead zone is often disheartening, but on year 4 it is at last all coming together. #GardensHour

Just sneaking in under the bar on #GardensHour and saying my biggest problem at the minute is that I always manage to go away the week the garden springs to life…

Tall dahlias with flowers so heavy their stems could not support them were a challenge. Overcome by giving up and planting shorter ones.

Carrot Cake with a garden theme for my husband's birthday! Flowers are all from his gardens. Bluebonnet, Dahlberg daisies, sages, gomphrena ... and lots of cream cheese frosting 😜

I guess what I learnt is it’s ok to to let go, and move on, we don’t have to keep doing what we’ve always done. There’s freedom in changing direction #GardensHour

#GardensHour I love daffodil season which is quickly coming to an end here 💛

Another kinda silly one from me, is I was always growing too much of certain foods, could NEVER eat it and it was often wasted. My solution was just stop growing food! I started out pretty much only gardening to eat, and now I’ve completely flipped and loving it #GardensHour

It’s been an exceptional year for huge tulip flowers. Never seen anything like this year before. Anyone else seeing this?

First challenge is exposure as we back on to open fields with little tree cover, so we have a double set of beech hedges to the south and a mixed hawthorn hedge to the west as wind breaks. Secondly the soil is sandy and alkaline, so it’s lots of mulching and growing the right plants.

#GardensHour each Fall when I plant bulbs, I make the same mistake and plant them too shallow. These narcissus are standing quite thin and tall and luckily haven’t toppled over.

#gardenshour doing a call out for gardening challenges. Some are ones I've set for myself- I don't water anything outside of the veggie beds. Some are nasty discoveries- grass that won't die. Still worth it though. 🌱

I have a patch of mine that always grows moss. This year we are deciding to reduce the lawn slightly and increase the borders, hopefully preventing some of that. We also used an iron based product to help get rid of it with some success #GardensHour

AH-MAZING! Would love to grow that!

I gave up and now have started to like the moss (except in late August when it’s all dried out). #GardensHour

So much this. [Progress, not Perfection!]

I'm still behind, but I have gotten several long-delayed projects started.

Step by step! *cheering madly!!!*

Drought is an issue here, and rainwater collection systems are not always easy or inexpensive.

Definitely a shared challenge.

My challenge is mostly my lawn, which reverts to 80% moss at the earliest opportunity. I should just give up, but for some reason I persevere 😂 #GardensHour

#GardensHour my favourite pink rhododendron is blooming about a month early due to our mild, wet winter and unfortunately the mosquitoes are early too!
