A mountain peak stands out in front of a near-cloudless sky. Many ridges, flutings and crenelations can be seen in the snow. I was to venture around the righthand flank of this behemoth a few days later to drop from the Gokyo valley into the Everest valley. Beautiful views on the way from Gokyo to Dhole. Really great part of the trek. When the weather is good, there is always something to see. I would like to walk this route once in the opposite direction and then continue via Renjo La pass.

A huge mountain covered in snow and ice towers over the surrounding landscape. The valleys are all the muted brown colour that's prevalent at moderate to high altitudes in the Himalaya.

The mighty #AmaDablam as seen from the trail to #Gokyo

In my opinion, a more impressive #mountain than Everest, although its #summit is around 2,000m lower.

A view towards the Everest group across a massive glacier (the Ngozumpa, if memory serves me correctly). Skies are blue. Taken around 14 years ago so the glacier has probably retreated to some extent since then.

The view towards Mount Everest from the summit of Gokyo Ri in Nepal, taken in late October 2011. We crossed the glacier in the foreground early the next morning. Hopefully enough of it remains for this still to be possible.
