A gravel trail curves along a rocky hillside on Antelope Island, leading the eye down into a vast desert basin glowing gold where shafts of light break through a dramatic, cloud-heavy sky. Snow-dusted mountains line the far horizon, and the flat expanse below scattered with sagebrush and dry grass catches the light in broad, warm pools. The sun pushes through a gap in the clouds near center frame, turning the whole scene amber and steel blue at once.

A brief opening in the clouds made for a magical sunrise on Antelope Island yesterday.
