Day 1

Apios americana, called Sipekne’ in Mi’kmaq or American Groundnut in English, a native legume cultivated here by the Mi’kmaw people in woodlands and along stream-beds since time immemorial. It has tubers joined together along thin roots like a string of beads which can be harvested and eaten like a potato. It grows enormous vines and beautiful puce inflorescences every summer. A tremendous plant.
