A one foot length of dark stained bamboo, with a cutout made like the bed of a boat or canoe, scored opposite with the little ridges you scrape with a brush or wire to make that cliché sound you hear in 1970's gangster movies in the suspenseful, waiting parts... kur-ik-tic-tic, kur-ik-tic-tic, kur-ik-tic-tic... The far end is wrapped with parchment, elastic bands and electrical tape so the repair (another piece of bamboo) makes a good positive bond. Shouldn't be much finishing required, it was a good fit. Colour matching the only thing to think about.
Repairing one of these today for a pal is how I got looking up glue for bamboo.
I ended up going with gorilla, regular.
This one's a super-old, super-simple one.
Probably found at a street vendor somewhere the chap spends winters […]
