A sky filled with dark nimbostratus clouds over a red-and-white-striped lighthouse. Two (keepers’) cottages stand on either side of the structure, and a cement WWII "pillbox" defence bunker is just to the left. On the horizon, two people walk through a field towards the tower. Built in 1790, the Happisburgh Lighthouse was saved as a working light by volunteers from the local community. Happisburgh, Norwich, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke, July 2020.

Happisburgh - aerial view. Coastal erosion has reshaped this shoreline since medieval times. Land & buildings linked to the village have been lost as soft glacial cliffs retreat, in places by around 1–2 metres per year #Happisburgh #erosion #aerial #image #Coast
The quaint Happisburgh Lighthouse in Norfolk during the rare and spectacular display of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) a few weeks ago. 🥰💕

A painted panel of plywood, now aged and faded. The words "The Hill" have been cut out of the board. The counter of the "e" and space between the two "l"s are missing. Another piece of (untreated) wood can be seen through the apertures, and weeds are growing in the gap. The wording is in blackletter type and the letterforms were extracted with the aid of drilled "pilot holes" for a jigsaw blade. Presumably, the removed letters were used elsewhere, and somebody realised that the panel was still readable and could be used as a sign in itself. The Hill, Happisburgh, Norfolk, UK. Happisburgh Lighthouse aerial view. Built 1790. Norfolk’s oldest working lighthouse & the only one in Britain run by local volunteers. Once one of a pair of leading lights guiding ships past Haisborough Sands. Restored 1990 with help from Challenge Anneka. #Happisburgh #aerial

#Happisburgh used to be my happy place in the late 1970s, well one of them!

Rosie and Casper, border collies, playing on the beach near Sea Palling, Norfolk. Both dogs are jumping towards each other with their tails up! There are huge fluffy clouds in a pale blue sky.

View from a grassy cliff under sunny autumn skies, overlooking a sandy beach at Happisburgh in Norfolk,UK. Walkers on cliff and beach, lighthouse and church tower on the horizon.
Another glorious sunny day on the East coast. Good to make the most walking along the beaches and sandy cliffs enjoying the ozone and taking in the vitamin sea. Autumn, yet still shorts weather.

So it will not be dug out. It is pinned in place, and will disappear and reappear at Mother Nature’s whim. I love #Happisburgh
Happisburgh Time and Tide bell (top half anyway!) now visible. See previous picture alt text for description.
Update. After a particularly wild night, the beach at #Happisburgh has shifted sufficiently for the top half of the bell to be visible at least!
Happisburgh Time and Tide bell photographed September2024, (2 metal bells of verdigris green, positioned end to end, inside an open wooden construction which allows the bells to rock when agitated by the tide and ring). The clacker device stands proud above the top bell, the clacker for the bottom bell is already buried in the sand, after only being on the beach since July 2023. Rosie the border collie sits in front of the bells.
September 2025, and only the top of the clacker device for the top bell is now visible. The bells ring no more, after only being in position for just over 2 years. Hopefully they will be dug out and repositioned and not just left to rot in the sand.
The #Happisburgh #TimeandTide bell last September, and today 12 months later. Hopefully they will be dug out and repositioned.
