“It should be La Bruja,” Izzy grumbled. “Using ‘the’ is disrespectful.”
“De momento somos luchadores, mi amor,” Bella replied. “Respect will come when we use our powers.”
“I guess. So you start the fight by hitting me with a chair-“
“I wanted to flip over the table and lunge forward.”

The Bruja was in war w/ the crystal witch over the title of the one that #cats prefer. This fight went on for years while both sides ritually laced themselves from head to toe w/ catnip. They exhausted their meowgic & even put numerous cat-magnet spells on themselves. It was a CATastrophe! #hbp79

The Bruja vs The Crystal Witch
Something is a brew
Like fire vs ice
The choice is up to you
Believe you in the sage
Belive you in the light
Witch energy you harness
Enchant thee of the sorceress
As thou dost delight

Heidi had found the book in a little shop tucked down an alleyway, off the high street, between a snooker hall and tattoo shop.
The alley was filled with seven roll top bins, something about that made a clear statement to Heidi about the perception of respectability, or something.
She’d also been near public men’s rooms which smelt less rank than this passageway. Noticing the stains on the walls, her eyes attempted to dance away, only to fall on another pattern a sepia trace of aged piss. She gagged.

The door she wanted had ribbed privacy glass panels and a salamander burnt into the centre of the wood. That was what everyone called the shop, Salamanders.
Inside the air was thick with incense. Heidi made her way between three bulging circular clothes racks. It looked like someone had, in a moment of choice paralysis perhaps, decided on putting their entire stock on display.
She reached the counter. Leaning over she looked down at the owner on the floor with her hands extended like a child pleading for more gruel. Two inches above floated a purple shard of crystal, it spun about an off-balance axis and spluttered out a blinking light.
Heidi met the owners eyes. She didn’t know the woman’s name and it didn’t look like she could offer it anymore. Heidi knew the look of someone who had had their mind overpowered by magic. Did that mean the vision this woman had sent her was the last thing she’d done before succumbing to the malfeasance?
She took the emerald charm from the owners bracelet. It was carved into the shape of a wildcat or a lynx.
The purple crystal stopped glowing and dropped into the woman’s limp hands at the same moment her eyes emptied and her muscles relaxed. Heidi didn’t let a sound spill out of her as she cried.
Above the nearest clothes rack Heidi held the little green charm in the place she knew the dimensional vault was. Her sight was still blurred, but only one object was there. The book.

Heidi wiped her eyes and left the shop to begin her hunt.

Carmen’s hand went to the iguana claw necklace she always wore, dark eyes following Jade as she hopped out of the car in her loud hippie get-up. That new age, vortex-loving witch-wannabe would soon pay for taking her space every day. Then that puta would see what a real witch could do. #hbp79

“Here are your drinks ladies. Tea and a hot chocolate.”

The waitress eyed the peculiar customers. It was midnight & a full moon, they weren’t the oddest ducks in this pond.

Suddenly, the cocoa steamed & a small chili floated idly.

Sierra eyed Marisol.

“Couldn’t resist could you?”

The doll was a complete, precise replica of the Crystal Witch stitched together with memories the Bruja had of her sister. Plotting with a straight needle in her hand, her lips curved up, dripping wet with her plan for what's next. #hbp79 #vss365

Akane shook her head as the bruja fought the crystal witch. Sages and crystals were thrown during the fight while the two cursed each other for being a fake witch.
"I should've been an accountant." Akane rubbed her eyes. "I could've had a steady paycheck, but no I had to be an assassin." #hbp79

Morena Brack eyed the book. “Oh, Marta! ‘The Bruja vs The Crystal Witch’? Why’re you listed first?”

“B then C, Me then Thee,” Mme Canales quipped. “Don’t pout! Let’s have tea before our guests arrive.”

“Still'd rather influence children with spells,” Morena grumbled. 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑟, 𝑚𝑦 𝑎𝑠𝑠.

The two shop owners had always had a friendly rivalry which expressed itself in both heaping each other with blessings in a spirited displays of one-upmanship. Eventually both shops began to look more like the other with the gifts they gave.
The rivalry came to a head when La Bruja proposed.

Rowan, The Bruja, was coming for Azami, The Crystal Witch, who sat at the table with an Amethyst crystal. With a puff of smoke, Rowan appeared.
Azami began, "Fulfill the desire sent to thee, work this magic just for me." She threw her hands at Rowan, who vanished in another puff of smoke.

"What's the best crystal for protection?" The bruja asked.
"My most popular question," the Crystal witch pulled out a large obsidian orb. "This one is the best, but really any large crystal will do in a pinch."
"Any?"
"Yeah. If you throw it hard enough, the problem will fix itself."

The bruja whispered to the wind, her curses laced with blood and bone. Across the clearing, the crystal witch stood calm as light danced around

‘You wield death,’ the witch murmured, ‘but I command life’

The bruja grinned, unfazed ‘One cannot exist without the other. Let’s see who endures’

Standing on the dark, deserted street holding her book of chants in her left hand and her moonstone and tiger's eye gemstones tightly in her right hand, she whispered the words under the light of the full moon.

A cold wind passed, and the word "bruja" was whispered back to her as a reply.

The rivalry of the bruja and the crystal witch had lasted for centuries. A misplaced pot here, a spoiled potion there, a crack crystal over yonder, their mischief was felt far and wide.

Their ongoing war distracted each other from the torches and pitchforks that arrived at their door.

Gretta kept a black tourmaline in her car and an aquamarine around her neck. She even gave her boyfriend a garnet soon after they met. A dirty woman in shredded sweats and dreadlocks approached their picnic, glaring as the crystals failed. Gary fell asleep while Gretta cowered in fear.

The Bruja was so sure that she could defeat the crystal witch, not knowing the crystal witch had more power. The Bruja was just ordinary. Nothing special. The crystal witch had power through her array of crystals. I kinda felt sad for the Bruja, but she brought it on herself.
