A window of a dry stone built croft. There is no frame as the croft has been abandoned for 172 years. A mass of bracken and a single rosebay willow herb stalk are visible inside the building. 120 people lived in Boreraig in 1851. The settlement was forcibly cleared and all tenants evicted by the agents of Lord Macdonald in 1853 so the land could be farmed for sheep. About half were sent to Australia to be resettled. Many were assigned berths on HMS Hercules. 56 people (not all from Boreraig) died on the voyage from disease.
