The statue is rich in symbolism. The ring of fire represents destruction, while the drum symbolizes creation and the beat of time. His raised right hand offers reassurance, and his gesture toward the raised foot signifies liberation from ignorance.
Nataraja is often depicted standing on a demon (Apasmara), representing the overcoming of ignorance and illusion. His matted hair, which includes the goddess Ganga, embodies the flow of cosmic energies.
The Parivrtta Hasta Padangusthasana yoga pose, also called Dancing Shiva, mirrors some of the dynamic aspects of the deity's dance, challenging balance and promoting strength and flexibility.

Shiva Nataraja - the Hindu god Shiva in a cosmic dance - Shiva's dance, called Anandatandava, represents the creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe, a cyclical process in Hindu cosmology.

An active wood-burning WIP depicting Krisna and Arjuna before the battle

A little proof of progress of my latest woodburning piece! It’s slow going but it’s been very meditative. My biggest piece before this has been living room coasters, so this one is a bit of an undertaking!

A drawing of Nataraja Shiva, Lord of the Dance, made of reflective chrome, in a traditional pose. Having four arms, he holds a drum in one hand and a flame in the other, while a cobra unwinds from a third. He stands on a glowing lotus flower, beneath which is written a Sanskrit mantra. A ring of flames surround the figure, while lightning shoots from his head; behind him are a field of stars and the curve of a dark planet.

Brand new drawing! OM NAMAH SHIVAYA. Color pencil on illustration board, 32" x 32". The mantra translates "I bow to Shiva," but another interpretation is that the syllables represent the five elements (of earth, water, fire, air and space) and Shiva as their master. #shiva #hinduart #yogaart

“The elephant-headed Ganesha is one of Hindu India's most popular divinities. Because he has the power to create and remove obstacles, Ganesha is invoked at the beginning of all undertakings. This early representation of the deity almost surely belonged to a set of images depicting the Mother goddesses (Matrikas), who are customarily accompanied by Ganesha. Shown seated on a cushion, he holds a radish in his right hand, and his trunk reaches for a sweet from the bowl in his left. The sacred thread (worn by Hindu males after initiation into the faith) draped around his torso is formed by a cobra, and a jeweled diadem decorates his brow. Grand stylized ears frame his face and form part of his large halo.”

“In his capacity as the remover of obstacles, the Hindu god Ganesha is invoked at the beginning of all significant undertakings. This elephant-headed deity is the son of Shiva, and like children everywhere he imitates the actions of his father. One of Shiva's most significant roles is King of Dancers, so it is not surprising that Ganesha performs his own playful and rambunctious version of his father's cosmic dance. Ganesha's eight arms, which hold various attributes, and swaying chubby-baby body move to an unheard rhythm.
He is flanked by a pair of flying celestial figures above and by a small drummer and dancer at ground level.

Vishnu, a kind and benevolent Hindu god, appears in 10 principal avatars (descents), which he assumes to save the world from destruction. When the Goddess Earth was captured by a demon & carried to the bottom of the cosmic ocean, Vishnu assumed the form of a boar (varaha) and dove to her rescue.
Having just rooted the goddess out of the cosmic mud with his tusks, Varaha has placed her safely on the left elbow of his now human body. Heroically posed, the rescuer is ready to push off from the ocean floor and return her to the surface. Their watery surroundings are evoked by meandering lotuses and a pair of serpent deities (nagas) whose tails intertwine at the bottom of the composition. These nagas like the Goddess Earth, the hovering celestial figures above, and the pair of donors on the sculpture's base--are shown in attitudes of devotion to the savior deity.

The Matrikas (Mothers) are a group of female divinities frequently represented in medieval Hindu temples. Each of them is associated with a particular male deity, and they came to be regarded as the powers (shaktis) that arouse these gods to action. This Matrika is Varahi, the shakti of Vishnu in his boar avatar, called Varaha. Vishnu assumed this animal form in order to dive into the primeval waters to rescue the Goddess Earth from destruction. Varahi thus appears with the head of a sow and the body of a woman. She holds Vishnu's flaming discus and conch, and her buffalo mount appears. behind her. Her stance and the gesture of her upraised left hand suggest Varaha's triumphal pose after saving Earth from the watery abyss.
