The third of four Orion-class battleships built for the Royal Navy, HMS Conqueror was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 23 November 1912 During the Battle of Jutland, HMS Conqueror fired a total of 57 twelve-inch shells at German ships. No hits are recorded for any of the shells fired. Conqueror also took part in the failed attempt to intercept the German ships that had bombarded Scarborough, Hartlepool and Whitby in late 1914 and the inconclusive action of 19 August 1916.
