Both Mandy and Victoria are transitioning from male to female, but due to financial instability the actual transition process has been on-and-off again dependent on when medication can be afforded. Victoria discovered late in life that she was a woman. While living homeless in California and sleeping under a bridge in Atascadero, California. She talked to a woman who was undergoing the transition and realized that too, is how she felt. Victoria said that while Mandy, whom she met in August of 2024, hasn’t influenced her transition in any way, she’s made her feel safe in her decision. The pair, amongst other reasons, decided on Kalamazoo because of its size and how it is known for being an inclusive environment for the LGBTQ community. They look forward to their first pride festival in Kalamazoo together.
Mandy and Victoria Brown moved to Kalamazoo on May 25, hoping to establish a life in the city.
