(We got the paperback edition at my house) The paperback edition of Assata: An Autobiography by Assata Shakur, published by Lawrence Hill Books, released November 1, 1999 and sitting on some D’iyanu.

First edition, first printing (1987) of Assata: An Autobiography

On May 2, 1973, Black Panther Assata Shakur lay in a hospital, close to death, handcuffed to her bed, while local, state, and federal police attempted to question her about a shootout on the NJ Turnpike that claimed the life of a white state trooper. Long a target of J. Schmedgar Hoover’s campaign to defame, infiltrate, and criminalize Black nationalist organizations and their leaders, Shakur was incarcerated for four years prior to her conviction on flimsy evidence in 1977 as an accomplice to murder.

This intensely personal and political autobiography belies the fearsome image long projected on the prominent Black liberation activist, revolutionary, member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army (BLA) by the state and its media. With wit and candor, Assata Shakur recounts the experiences that led her to a life of activism and portrays the strengths, weaknesses, and eventual demise of Black and White revolutionary groups at the hand of government officials.

The result is this signal contribution to the literature about growing up Black in America that takes its rightful place in the literature of legends like The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the works of Maya Angelou and James Baldwin.

Good morning to the First edition, first printing (1987) of Assata: An Autobiography, worth its weight in gold in more ways than one. Good morning all. #HonorThem

Trump dishonors Memorial Day with hate and lies.

He once called our fallen heroes “suckers” and “losers.”

Today, he attacked judges and immigrants instead of honoring those who served.

We remember with dignity. He rants with disgrace.

He died saving war-torn immigrants.
Was his ultimate service, our family's, to our country, in vain?

Remember this. Respect it. Honor it.

Everything will be lost, if we stand in fear or complicity.

Nation of immigrants.
