Black and white photo looking out of a doorway in Sir John Hervey's Summerhouse. The view is of the parkland and The Canal, which is not a canal, but is instead an artificial lake constructed as part of the parkland. The parkland and canal were laid out in the early 18th century, on the orders of Sir John Hervey, who had just bought Ickworth manor. The parkland was remodelled by Capability Brown in 1776. He appears to have kept the Canal (which is unusual for him. It is amazing the lengths he would go to). The summerhouse was built in 1703 of red brick with flat pilasters; moulded cornice, parapets with sunk panels between piers: the central bay has a broken pediment framing a cartouche surmounted by a crown, both of limestone. Flat roof. Windows with flat arches of gauged brick and reeded keystones of limestone; large sashes with small panes. Pair of glazed entrance doors with flat arch of gauged brick with limestone key stone. Not that you can see any of that in the photo, as you are looking out of the building, framed by the doorway. The interior is underexposed.

A forte piano, made by Clementi, in the library at Ickworth House. The room also contains a fireplace, portraits, bookshelves and furniture with green upholstery with a white floral pattern.
A view of the rotunda at Ickworth House seen from the garden side. It is framed by nearby trees and there are conifers and topiary bushes near the house.
The rolling Suffolk countryside, seen from the Albana walk at Ickworth House. There are sheep and lambs in the nearest field, just the other side of a hedge. The ground falls away to a valley and more fields and trees can be seen on the hills at the far side.
A walk around the house, garden and Albana wood.
The forte piano in the library is a Clementi.

The Sun in the sun. A very large globe of the Sun suspended from a framework on a very sunny day. Many people are there to view it and there are some fine trees in the background.
The Sun globe installation Helios in front of the Italianate rotunda of Ickworth House. The globe is suspended from a framework making the edges of a cube.

Just below where the Chevington tributary joins the Linnet there is this beautiful deep pool and the stream becomes a little river, still being allowed to wind through the Ickworth floodplain on its way to join the River Lark.

Wonder if this spectacular bracket, rather past its best, on an old pine trunk could be Timber Mazegill (Gloeophyllum trabeum)?

Love walled gardens, specially when they are wildflower meadows as far as the eye can see. #Ickworth @nationaltrust
