Excited to see our #ilspUNIL book at #slsa2025 and to meet Josephine Taylor, the commissioning editor, and Dave Cowan, series editor, in person! The book (OA: link.springer.com/book/10.1007...) is a socio-legal study on the life of human rights treaty obligations at the subnational / local levels.
Looking forward to meet researchers and learn about methods at #SLSA2025! I will speak today at 3pm on the Swiss climate case and narrative battles and at 4:45pm on the results of a multiyear socio-legal project on international human rights treaties at the subnational/local level #ilspUNIL.

Five years ago, I was asked by a political scientist whether we should do research on cities, rather than cantons #ilspUNIL, in Switzerland. I didn't feel confident. @JanneNijman's book may make me reconsider that reluctance, also bc of the interesting role of cities on climate.

In the #ilspUNIL project, we also find that parliaments need to engage more actively with international law, including (or particularly) at the subnational level. Delighted to see at #esil2021 that we are no longer 100% obsessed with courts and tribunals.
