And the winners of #InsectileContest are...
Creepslime and ricekrispbee!
I will be adding both of these puzzlingly-shaped creatures to the game! [1/4]

As I'm reviewing the entries for #InsectileContest, I'd love some feedback on the new bug collecting animation!

How can I make it more satisfying? (Or soul crushing, for failures?)

#insectilecontest These are the 4 insects I chose.
The green peach aphid produces a pheromone that, when threatened, warns other aphids and causes them to scatter. So my idea is that once the aphids are used in a square formation, they disperse in the second round and take on a new shape

In a world of bug cuties and sillies we need one of those ugly mammals, so here is my Etruscan-shrew for the #InsectileContest !!!

I really love the game's art! Tried to make the style of the submission fit (as much as I wanted it to, eh eh)

I'm a little late to the punch, but here's my entry for @narwhalnut.bsky.social 's #InsectileContest !

This is Dulticolisk, a little critter that almost looks like fish bones... it is based off the Dulticola Netwing Beetle.

Go wishlist the game!

(post labeled in case you don't like seeing bugs)

Have to take some time to do something for #InsectileContest, time to meet that simple little cricket and butterfly hybrid, Critterfly. Cute isn't it?

I'm revising the date of #InsectileContest just a bit!

Since the winner will not be decided until at least Monday morning, I will be accepting submissions through Sunday night : )

There is still plenty of time to design your own puzzlingly-shaped bug!

My entry for #InsectileContest

I tried my best to mimic in game style. It's been a while since I was doing pixelart.
Btw I found your game cause of that contest and played the demo. Pretty neat concept. I like it a lot! <3

Hey @narwhalnut.bsky.social! I had to really rush this one because I'm really busy at the moment, but I wanted to at least show you the idea I had for the #insectilecontest, a beetle samurai :)

My entry for #InsectileContest
Mothfire (has a better ring to it than Firemoth).

A breed of a moth with a firefly that carries its own buttlamp to which it's attracted to

Here's my entry for the #InsectileContest : The Royal Oil, based on oil beetles!

This was such a good opportunity to draw one of the ideas I got after playing the demo, actually!

[Highlighted text beneath the image dubs the creature a Fiddlestick]
A long-necked weevil-like creature on a tile board. A 2 highlighted near the body shows that the body will do two damage, whereas the head would only net one. The long neck bypasses the tiles entirely.

Miscellaneous information:
โ€ข The long thin neck bypasses obstacles on the board, but would also bypass enemy Insectiles as well and not damage them. On the flipside, the neck would not conflict with the placement of other insectiles on the same team.

โ€ข The neck is the sturdiest part of the Fiddlestick's body, able to move from the light green base without bending in a rigidly straight line - so bobbing up, down, left, right and so on.

โ€ข Conflict with mushroomfolk could involve reaching through open windows in search of food, ambling about in clumsy herds or eating the leaves from crops.

โ€ข It is not particularly intelligent. these are no thoughts behind those eyes but they seem happy enough

โ€ข An idea for a pre-evolution morph option would be a 2x2 diagonal insectile called a twiddletwig, though real-world weevils have larvae and not nymphs.
If a pre-evo morph is not an option then maybe they just hatch like that and gradually grow out their neck.

โ€ข Both sexes can battle to impress mates by bashing necks to battle, a behaviour seen in some long-necked weevils and also giraffes.

โ€ข The underside is the same smooth dark green, with uniform smoothness rather than a textured underside. The carapace has little slots for the legs to emerge.
