And they’re back! The first Corncrake of the year has been heard on #isleofcoll. There are still places available for our Coll in Summer tour with @naturetrek.bsky.social in May - a great chance to see these delightful birds at close quarters - and much else besides on this exquisite Hebridean gem.

I’m a bit late to the party but here’s a complete one - washed up on an Isle of Coll beach in the Hebrides. I understand that it is a shrimping bait pot. This one is dated 2005… #isleofcoll
The white building of the Coll Hotel is in the background. The sun is just setting, creating pink clouds and a light blue sky - both are reflected in the slightly choppy water of Loch Eatharna. The loch is bordered by a rocky grey shore, sweeping up to green grass. There are traditional white stone cottages on the left of this photo.
A baby blue Morris Minor car stands proudly in the foreground. The background is a grey/blue coloured metal shed, which houses the Isle of Coll distillery (gin).
A stone farm building and wall in the background. A peacock stands atop the wall, with a small pony on a large green lawn. The lawn is covered in hundreds of white daisy flowers. The sky is a bright blue, with no clouds.
A wonderful Easter break to the #isleofcoll
Love this wee island. Certainly packs a punch with regards to sights, sounds and nature.
Really good for the soul.
A plump, blue-black oil beetle on sand and dry grasses stems.
A fat, black and orange caterpillar is curled into a ring on dead grass stems
Green, heart-shaped burdock leaves are poking through bare sand
Fabulous walk today with a lovely family on #isleofcoll. Delights at every turn: dandelion and burdock provided a pleasing juxtaposition; clambering Mossy Saxifrage played host to a fat Drinker moth caterpillar; and the local celebrity/rarity the Short-necked Oil Beetle even put in a turn.
Wrapping up a glorious sunny week on #isleofcoll. Lots of white-tailed eagle sightings with at least 2 adults and 1 immature bird on the island right now. Other raptors doing well with a pair of hen harriers, pair of buzzards and a male Merlin being seen frequently. #birding #birdingscotland
Seeing what I assume is the same male Merlin every day now on #isleofcoll - no sign of a female but hopefully they’ve established a territory! First sand martins, 10 red-breasted merganser, 4 teal, 2 common redpoll and 1 rook the most notable sightings today #birding #birdingscotland
Day 2 on #isleofcoll - a male Merlin hunting in front of the house topped off yesterday evening nicely, a great day for raptors. Also had a GND moulting into summer plumage which was nice. Lots of willow warblers around the island now and another swallow #birding #birdingscotland
First day of a week on #isleofcoll today and already off to a great start! Had white-tailed eagle and hen harrier from the house along with plenty of smart wheatears flitting about. First swallow of the year from the ferry and two puffins as well! #birding #birdingscotland
