I've been a fan of Dakota's for many years because she consistently provides relatable characters in stories that flow well, have a ton of heart, and great chemistry and heat. In this case, it's packed with emotions, especially love in all its forms (including friend, general family, parent/child, romantic, environment, and community), and suspense. The mystery of what's going on gets dangerous. That's all I'm sharing. π While the practical jokes ratchet up between Linden (World's Worst Neighbor) Rumsey and Megan (Meg, shortcake) James (Locke), I love how he steps up when something isn't a joke and things go awry. Not that I expected any less from this ornery firefighter. -- Book quote 'His curious smile makes my insides warm. Itβs soβ¦genuine. Have I ever seen this smile before?' -- Meg James I loved getting to know these two. They each have some challenges that they battle. I can understand their choices, and I like how things work out. The banter between siblings and friends is awesome. And the graphic tees are hilarious. It makes it easier to feel like I am part of the story. OK, so, technically, I kind of am as a side character is named after me. Quinn has a good heart and is as inappropriate as I'm likely to be. It's funny. π I read along with the audio book. (Book review) All Roads Lead to... I love this so much, I read it twice! The first time was just audio, where I got to close my eyes and imagine the story unfolding. I highly recommend it! Vivian Reece and Everett Rumsey are similar in many ways, including that they are both protective single parents. Both of their situations leading to this status were bad. My heart just about broke when Logan, Everett's son, inquired about a name change. π Someone give that boy a hug and tell him he's loved! -- Book quote 'Earlier today, he was a big tough cop who treated his son with kindness. A hot single dad with handcuffs.' -- Vivian Reece The tension, love, and several other emotions come flying through in vivid imagery throughout. The buildup for the serial killer is well-balanced with the budding relationship and expansion of the Rumsey family to envelop Mateo "Matty" and Vivian. Watching Logan step into the role of big brother was possibly the sweetest thing about the whole book. He's patient, kind, and thoughtful about his actions. I read along with the audio book my second time through. The narrators are Gregory Salinas and Jill Smith. Listening twice was made easy because both are great fits for these characters. Story: 5 stars Narration: 4.5 stars Listening Speed: 1.7x
