Today in #LaborHistory 7/15/1381: #Peasant #Revolt leader #JohnBall was executed. Head on pike left on ELondon Bridge. Ball was a #radical priest. Helped inspire peasants to rise up in June of 1381, though he was in #prison. Revolt came in wake of yrs of war, paid for by heavily taxing the poor.

🕯️ #JohnBall, the English priest who played a prominent leadership role in the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, was hung, drawn, and quartered at St Albans #OTD 15 July 1381, with #KingRichardII in attendance. Ball's head was displayed stuck on a pike on London Bridge.

He was the first ever Englishman to win The Open and was described as a golfing ‘phenomenon’ Remarkable 🏆️

🇬🇧 ⚔️ #OTD in #History 11 June 1381, the PEASANTS' REVOLT gathered pace, led by #WatTyler and stoked by radical cleric #JohnBall, as they marched towards London. King #RichardII, then only 14, fled to the Tower of London. The revolt had first flared up over a new Poll Tax.
