In the foreground two trees frame the view of the river. The left tree appears to be a birch with yellow leaves and brighter trunk. A small wooden bird feeder with a roof, and a couple of feeding holes, hangs in the birch. The tree on the right is kind of a scraggly pine. The yellow leaves hint that this is late summer as the very first signs of fall are beginning to emerge.

Cooch-Dayett Mills in Newark, Delaware. This is a historic grist and saw mill built in the 1830s. The corrugated metal towers are rusty and weathered. The main building is a colonial-style brick building with stone foundation. This mill is located just north of Cooch’s Bridge, the site of Delaware’s only “significant land battle” in the Revolutionary War.

Looking in to the sunset on 273 West in Newark, Delaware. My father worked at the (formerly FMC) plant on the horizon. The industrial dryers create large steam clouds 24/7 (not smoke), so we always called it “Dad’s cloud factory”.

“Second Dam” on the White Clay Creek in Newark, DE. This dam is scheduled for removal, which is bittersweet. I will be sad to see this dam go, but also excited to see the Creek restored, and to watch the Shad make a comeback.
