Firstly, I want to make it clear that the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of the Government, and therefore decisions on how it discharges its obligations, such as the changes to BBC Sounds service, are a matter for the BBC. I am aware that the BBC has recently announced its own decision to delay the blocking of BBC Sounds outside of the UK whilst it works on plans to continue to make other BBC stations available to listeners outside the UK. From the Government’s perspective, there was a brief debate on this in the House of Lords on May 14th, instigated by Lord Blunkett, which you can read here.
