William, dressed in the fashion of a wealthy man of the 1670s, points to a map held by a subordinate. William is in a brown long coat, tied with an orange waist sash and an elaborate baldrick over right shoulder from which his sword hangs. He wears a wide brimmed black hat with large white and orange feathers held in the hatband. His subordinate is in much more sombre black coat, trousers and stockings, with a white shirt under that has a large falling collar outside the coat. His black hat, with a white feather, is tucked under his right arm as he holds the large map in both hands around the height of his waist. A sword hangs in a scabbard on his left side. The painter Kev Dallimore has based the two figures on a large round base, vegetated with green grass tufts and red flowers. The figures stand facing each other, William to the right.
