A picture of my hand holding a book called Glam and Beardy: volume one. It has a slightly manga style of art and it shows a kid dressed in what looks like a preppy school uniform made a bit punk. And there's a creature down in the right hand corner drawing on the title. It is probably a lizard but it's orange-red and stripy a bit like a tiger. There are doodles of gems in the background. It's written by Ruby Clyde and Rachel WD and illustrated by Vincent Batignole. Above it is a massive golden beetle hanging on the wall, to add glamour.
A book rec for 7+ kids (though you could read it to younger ones). I read this over easter. It's a funny, charming buddy comedy, with two voices, about a kid living in a magical kingdom where everyone is assigned a "type"... and what it means when you don't conform. #KidLitUK

I'm blown away to see these books together. All three were designed by #RayTierney and illustrated by #karitasart, and they look phenomenal!

It's stuff like this that helps keep me going as a children's author. I met Allen's daughter seven or eight years ago, not long after The Train to Impossible Places was published, so I'm over the moon the learn that she still carries the book and its characters with her. #KidLit #KidLitUK
