If you work in climate, politics, or just want to understand what global agreements really take, go see Kyoto
It’s fierce, funny, and painfully relevant. The kind of storytelling we need more of.
Playing Soho Place Theatre, London until 3 May 🎭

The most moving part? Seeing how nations with vastly different agendas did come to an agreement
It’s easy to feel cynical about global climate talks, especially in our current divided era, but this is a powerful reminder that unity is possible when urgency outweighs ego
#COPHistory #KyotoPlay
Kyoto puts you in the room where it happened: 11 hrs past the COP deadline, nations deadlocked, and fossil fuel lobbyists doing all they can to sink a deal.
Climate negotiations aren’t dull, they’re messy, human, political. This play nails it.

Saw Kyoto at Soho Place Theatre last night: Tense, brilliant & painfully real. It captures the drama, division & surprising unity of the 1997 climate talks.
Ultimately, it gave me hope that so many countries can, in fact, agree on a global scale🌍

It's brilliant. So pleased to hear you saw it #Kyotoplay @goodchancetheatre.bsky.social
Enchanted by #KyotoPlay, a definite watch of in London.

How would the mad exhaustion of the COP3 climate summit work as theatre? Saw and loved #kyotoPlay. It unmasks the interests beneath a thin skin of diplomacy. Being complicit, every audience member gets a delegate lanyard.
A def go-see. 🌍

Nods for #GiantPlay and #Machinal richly deserved. And looking forward to seeing #KyotoPlay soon.
And congratulations to the incredible Jorge Bosch on his Olivier nomination for his performance as the agreement-forging-titan Raúl Estrada-Oyuela (Best Actor in a Supporting Role) in #KyotoPlay at #sohoplace! Humour, passion and talent in abundance 🧡 #OlivierAwards
#KyotoPlay has been nominated for the Best New Play at the #OlivierAwards! Thank you to our magnificent cast, creative team, co-producers the RSC, Rachel Styne and Jessica Foung, our venue #sohoplace and each audience member who has watched the show so far - you've made this all possible 🧡

The signage for the show outside the theatre. A white digital screen with the word Kyoto in red, the ‘o’ is the globe.
Interval post: I’ve been transported to 1997 for #KyotoPlay. This show is sensational - if you’re in London, don’t miss it!
Also, well-deserved praise for the brilliant Chair Raul who bamboozled the exhausted delegates into voting yes, and the UK’s John Prescot, who, unseen, moved mountains to make it happen.

What an exceptional show! As Mr Milazzo said "this is the only play you need to see right now". 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Really enjoyed Kyoto #kyotoplay last night. Works well as a drama - Pearlman as narrator gives it a lot of friction - and was impressed with the climate elements too. I think it also got the diplomatic (much more than climate) significance of the Protocol right too. sohoplace.org/shows/kyoto
Rightly, Labour folk & many others have been paying tribute to John Prescott in the past few days. If you want to know more about his global & climate impact, go see #KyotoPlay. Also a huge domestic legacy from Decent Homes to New Deal for Communities programme in Hackney & across the country.
I’m in London today … and so is this amazing RSC show … #KyotoPlay. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
"An electric, hilarious and roller-coaster portrayal of the first-ever climate change agreement negotiations, Kyoto is a play that grabs you by the lapels and keeps shaking you."

There’s a flicker of hope in #KyotoPlay but a fragile one. Fine ensemble work in a sharply written satirical thriller by Joe Murphy & Joe Robertson about the behind-the-scenes battles to create the first global climate treaty.
