New Patterns for Shoes · The Lady's Magazine (1770-1819): Patterns of Perfection The Lady's Magazine: Patterns of Perfection

So lovely. I still can’t fathom why the #ladysmag stopped publishing shoe/slipper patterns like this in the 1780s when she they remained fashionable for so long after. E.g. ladysmagazine.omeka.net/items/show/175 (I have a bunch more on my website and more to digitise if I ever get the chance).

The Lady's Magazine (1770-1819): Patterns of Perfection The Lady's Magazine: Patterns of Perfection

It took me 15 years to find 6 of the c.650 pattern sheets (more than 1000 individual designs) published in the #ladysmag and now I have collected, seen, and catalogued over 500 (many of which are publicly available on ladysmagazine.omeka.net). #womenshistory #fashionhistory #dresshistory 2/2

How gorgeous is this? Love this recreation by Katherine Garrett Kirk of one of my favourite patterns from the Lady’s Magazine. This one is from 1775. It is for a work bag and you can see it and 200 others on my website Patterns of Perfection. #embroidery #georgian #needlework #ladysmag #dresshistory

Yes, what a world that would be.

(Note: the article seem to be advocating for domestic help to live outside of work, at least on a trial basis)
