Le Carré gave himself a variety of characters through which he could vent his anger @ Brexit, Trump, oligarchs, the state of the world & its intelligence services: Ed, Florence, Prue. The main character, as ever, remains more circumspect but has clear sympathy for the others views #BookSky #LeCarre
Enjoying the framing of Le Carré's Agent Running in the Field, where it's clear from the beginning that the main character has already confessed his sins to 'the Office'.
I did pause reading once I saw how it might all end in calamity, but I'm glad I picked it back up #BookSky #LeCarre #AmReading

So it looks like there's a zerochan page for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I'm not sure why I'm surprised. #lecarre

Shortly after the publication of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. A young(ish) Le Carre, posing in a doorway in London.
Do spys even leave the office anymore? I imagine them locked up in windowless rooms with their computers. Perhaps they are allowed out for a drink at Christmas.

A Perfect Spy is one of my favourite books / TV series.
Rudiger Weigang as Axel and Benedict Taylor as Magnus Pym (in his youth) were spellbinding. The writers create it, but the actors bring it alive.
I was working in Cornwall when the series came out. It was my winter night's viewing.

Controversial...
The BBCs adaptation of TheLittle Drummer Girl is much better than their more infamous The Night Manager. #LeCarre #TheNightManager
Intrigued but not overly impressed

George smirkey short story SMIRKEY'S GAME By John le Cabbé The house was set well back from the corner of Headstone Lane. A thin sleety rain drifted through the bitter night air, and the crumbling once-grand façade glistened in the jaundiced glow of a street-lamp. George Smirkey crunched his way up the short driveway then, throwing aside the empty crisp packet, he mounted the three worn stone steps and rapped on the doorbell. The door was cautiously opened almost at once by a man of middle age with receding grey hair, a nervous moustache, and a world-weary pair of spectacles on his face. 'Is this the "Safe" house?' asked Smirkey. 'It is,' replied Mr Safe. 'What can I do for you?' 'I am a Jehovah's Witness,' responded Smirkey, dutifully giving the password the 'Circus Operators' had provided him with before he set out from MI7 (SIC/WD40) HQ at Finchley Central. 'Then you'd better come in from the cold,' said Safe, sighing as he stepped back to allow his visitor to enter. Smirkey slipped past his host into the hallway. Struggling to his feet, he noticed the two men in dark suits and heavily framed spectacles who were sitting on the bench by the phone. One of them opened his briefcase smartly
