Just finished #letscallherbarbie a #novel for #bookclub … as a proud #Barbie owner for much of my childhood, I both enjoyed this and was disappointed in the “characters” in some ways, probably unfairly… am happy I read it. #booksky

As a co-founder of Mattel along with husband Eliot and Harold (Matt) Matson who they bought out in the 1940s, she was actually the one who managed the company. In 1956, Ruth approached the board with her idea to create an adult doll, one that would give little girls an alternative to the baby dolls that only promoted marriage and motherhood.
