New Lithops leaves growing inside the older, outer leaves. Over time, the old leaves will dry out and break down so the new leaves can thrive. The new growth is yellowish green with brown markings on the top. These markings are translucent "windows" that allow more light inside.
Out with the old, in with the new. The new Lithops leaves will slowly consume the old ones for water and nutrients. ๐ฑ

An oval succulent plant. It has two leaves that form the oval. The leaf-pair is splitting horizontally to reveal an emerging new leaf-pair that will take over. The surface of the leaf-pair is covered in bright red dots. The plant is seen growing out of a grey stone chip medium.
One year on from sowing, a Lithops julli cv Kikushogyoku is now 8mm long and looking good.

My Lithops lesliei seedlings in December 2024. This family (the Aizoaceae) don't do well in my conditions. I think it's because they like a cool winter and my house is too warm but my greenhouse and garden are too cold. Does anybody have any ideas on this?

One year on from sowing: Lithops verruculosa and Lithops vallis-mariae are now 4mm and 7mm across and their first moult is underway. They are looking good.

Looking down onto a tiny round succulent plant. It is pinkish in colour, and it has an oval split in the middle of the surface that shows a growing new patterned leaf pair underneath. The tiny plant is pictured against a ground of grey stone chips.
First proper moult of a Lithops dorotheae sown in February last year, hence just shy of one year old. The new leaf pair is clearly visible, and is strongly patterned. A hopeful sign at the end of a long January.

A mature lithops with a yellow flower emerging from the side of the body. Flowers should grow from the top out of the cleft between the two leaves. It's possible we watered it too late in the season and it had already started the process of shedding its old leaves. This could force the flower to find another exit.
The rogue lithops flower finally opened. It should NOT be coming out of the side like this, but at least it will be interesting to see how the plant responds as it begins shedding its old leaves. ๐ฌ๐ค๐ฑ

By way of comparison, this Lithops is also 4 years old from seed. It is now 17mm across, and is producing a new leaf pair as you can see. It won't be watered until April or May, when the old leaf pair have dried out. Then water every month or two until September, then dry until April again. #Lithops

A light green and very plump pair of lithops with what appears to be a flower bud emerging out of the side of the body. Possibly Lithops pseudotruncatella
As novice lithops growers, my wife and I were happy to see our first ever flowers this year. Now, one of hers is sprouting this. We're told it's a flower bud, but straight out of the side (and not the top) is...unusual. ๐ค๐ฑ
