Looking down into the top of a five-gallon bucket that is sitting on grassy ground. The bucket has an old blue t-shirt tied across the top of it. The t-shirt has stretched to create a hammock in which a circular cake of clay, looking something like a wheel of cheese, rests. There is clay residue on the shirt fabric around the edge of the main lump of clay.
Clay! It has drained down to a good consistency. Now I'll play around with it and see if it's plastic /malleable enough for use. I hope so.

An old blue t-shirt is tied across the top of a five-gallon bucket. In the pocket formed by the stretched shirt is a terracotta colored liquid that is a mixture of clay and water that is draining into the bucket.
Clay! Found a deposit in the garden and decided to process it for pottery purposes. Mixed it with water, sieved out the trash, and now it's draining, which may take several days. Then it will be time to make pots!

There are two bowls filled with dry clay. Top left: this clay is a very light tan high fire stoneware blend. Bottom: is a low fire brown local desert clay I gathered by the side of the road. Two small wheel thrown pots site to the right of the bowls to illustrate how a blend of the two clays looks. It's a light chocolate brown color.
I mixed a blend of 1/2 cone ten (2345°F) stoneware clay and 1/2 cone 01 (2046°F) local desert clay to find out what its firing temperature will be. I'm guessing it'll be mid range, but who knows!
