A picture of a merrily-burning campfire
Attempting to campfire-fire a wobbly little clay bowl I made out of wild clay from the wedding site. It hasn't immediately exploded, so it's already doing better than the last one. #WildClay #Campfire

Trying some #earthenware tiles. This local clay is so nice, I still find it hard to believe it was only ever used for bricks, not pottery or tiles or anything else.

Jar trio, just unloaded my first personal firing and i’m so happy with the results!!!

My hand holding a chunk of bluish gray clay at the site where it was collected. A few fine, brown roots are imbedded in the clay. In the background are the variegated tones of the clay vein—rust, iron yellow and gray.
My hand holding a shard of ceramic material, dark reddish-brown in color.
I’m making a custom clay body for my upcoming workshop using #WildClay I collected just south of where I live, and combining it with a midrange commercial clay to give it the durability it lacks on its own. The sample on the right was fired to over 2100°F […]

Ik heb wat zand verzameld in de Schoorlse duinen vorige maand om te testen als glazuur. Elk zand geeft zijn eigen kleur, dus dat wordt meer verzamelen...!

My first batch of whistles. I went pretty far in the direction of ocarinas but will steer back towards emergency whistles in the next batch. Also testing some black and white slips to paint them.

A large glass jar containing a yellowish brown liquid, sitting on a steel countertop. The background features various other bottles and jars, as well as wooden shelves in my studio.
I’m making terra sigillata from the clay I collected from my birthplace last summer. I’ve been invited to a show called “Clay as Place: The Transient Object” and it reminds me that my #WildClay collection is a mirror or my experience with transience—moving […]

been busy this week cleaning up a backlog of pots in preparation for a bisque firing, but did manage to finish this tiny little buggy jug turned from the last bit of clay left after turning a batch of bowls. a reminder to keep our nose above the water. #folkart #facejug #pottery #handmade #wildclay
ive made several videos about my process for creating work, but with pottery, especially heavily detailed pieces, its just as important how we dry the work. i have used this tent method for many years, and almost never have any issue with drying cracks #pottery #clay #folkart #wildclay #stoneware
Two unfired ceramic mugs with intricate geometric patterns and textures, one featuring gold and gray colors, and the other in soft pink tones. They are placed on a wooden table with a blurred background.
My hand holding a finished ceramic mug with carved diamond patterns painted in earthy tones of brown and turquoise. Blurred in the background, the gray cement floor in my studio.
In the before picture, the mug has been painted with terra sig (from Louisiana, Virginia and Ontario) and is unglazed. This is one of the pieces I decorated at the dining room table when it was too cold to be in my studio. #BeforeAndAfter #ceramics #pottery
been feeling a little under the weather, but on the mend... did some garden work in the sun today, and finished up this weird jar. pretty traditional form, but im always playing with ways to make em less traditional #folkart #pottery #handmade #wildclay #clay
weather has been warming up over here, and it seems im coming down with a cold... so instead of trying to do some advice videos as i had planned, figured id show ya a batch of poison flasks ive finished. #folkart #pottery #handmade #skull #wildclay

finished this one off today with an inscription from "light years ahead of our time" by kula shaker, check it out of ya like some groovey tunes. havnt done one quite like this before, but always good to follow an idea and see where it goes #facejug #folkart #wildclay #catawbavalley #pottery
after letting the join set up for a bit (anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on several factors) i carefully scrape the join in, work it down, blend it in, and smooth it. the strongest join we can make is one we cant find after #facejug #pottery #folkart #wildclay #sculpting
with all thats been going on, ive been at a bit of a loss for what to say... in such times, i tend to take the time, and sit with it to get my thoughts together and create a bit... thoughts are forming #folkart #pottery #catawbavalley #wildclay #candlestick
A close-up of an off-white vessel with a crackled surface, showcasing a pattern of irregular, fragment-like shapes against a muted brown background.
Today, I got an order from an interior design co requesting two lamp bases using my #Florida crackle surface. I’ve only ever used it for the pieces I’ve made for local gallery shows to share my #WildClay experiments with the general public. I mark them NFS […]

back to work in the new year with a few garden bells. thought i would show yall, and make another plea for solidarity among the common people. we have a hell of alot more in common than we do with these dangerous maniacs who want to rule the world #pottery #wildclay #folkart #bell #windchimes
The bottom of a pot stamped with DG 26
A ball of red clay on a workbench
A rolled out slab of clay with a ruler impression on it with a wad of clay sitting next to it
First pot of the year from yard clay. The redder clay from a bit north of me is actually looking way nicer than the yard clay.

Got antsy and just went ahead and made a cup with it cause I couldn’t wait.

welp, ive slaked my reclaim over night, and now its ready to mush up and lay out. there are many ways to dry out a batch of slop, but this method has worked well for me. naturally, the best method to use is the one you find best for you. #clay #pottery #wildclay #reclaim #craft
wanted to turn a batch of jars for the end of the year, but i was down to the bottom of a clay bin and the clay was very soft so they turned out a little heavier than i would have liked. so i took this as an opportunity to do some heavy carving, much better #folkart #pottery #wildclay #jar #carving

hey yall, thought i would show you a face jug i finished earlier in the week. been playing around with some new techniques for adding a little ectra feature to the face to get a little extra weathered expression... hes tired, but finds a way to smile. #folkart #facejug #wildclay #pottery #sculpture

was just in the shop today, and figured id show yall a trick. there are lots of ways to get even spacings for handles, decorations, and carving patterns, this method has given me fairly reliable results for years. easy, efficient, inexpensive, effective #pottery #folkart #wildclay #art #handmade

Old piece from before I started woodfiring. I experimented with creating “atmospheric” effects with gas and electric kilns, using by spraying soda ash or dusting wood ash. The red swipe is wild clay dug from my mom’s backyard.
