A dot-tailed whiteface dragonfly balance on a thin blade of grass. It is facing upward. It appears to be sand in the background and a number of tall thin blades of grass at the lower right. The dragonfly is mostly black with some light spots along the top if its abdomen and a yellow spot on its tail. The abdomen is thin just below the thorax and widens toward the tail end. Its wings are spread and they are clear except for veining and a black spot at the upper corner of each.

A russett alder leaf beetle between two pale leaves, facing right. The beetle is mostly brown. Its head looks like a metallic brown. Its wings are a rich brown with white streaks all the way down, with a brown circle near the head. Its legs are a reddish-brown color.

Rosy maple moth. This colorful moth is resting on a stone wall. Its head and body are fuzzy and yellow. The wings are a rich pink up at the top by its head, with a large band of white or a very light yellow in the center, and curved pink lines again at the bottom. Three of its legs can be seen above and to the side of its head and they are pink also.

An Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly with its wings spread. It is facing up. The body is black with two black antennae forming a V. The wings are primarily a light yellow with numerous black markings and a little bit of orange and blue. There is a thick black line across the outer edge of the bottom of all of the wings. Almost at the very edge are yellow spots, like dashes, on the forewings. They're a little bigger on the hind wings and curved. At the top of the forewings there are four thick black streaks reaching down from the edge of the wings, each one getting thicker toward the body. On the hindwing there are two thick black streaks matching the length of the butterfly's body, as well as four thin black lines, two of which line up with the innermost streak of the forewing. At the very bottom of the hind wing is an orange circle with a yellow mark in the middle of it and a black spot in the middle of that. It is surrounded by four blue dots. There are two more orange spots below that.
