Execution of Margaret Pole.

One of the few members of the House of Plantagenet to have survived the Wars of the Roses, Margaret was executed in 1541 at the command of King Henry VIII, the second monarch of the House of Tudor, who was the son of her first cousin.

Something notable: Margaret was beatified on December 29th, 1886 by Pope Leo XIII. A portrait of Margaret as a martyr on a light purple background. The portrait says ‘Blessed Margaret Pole.’

#margaretpole came from a strong resilient family. She was a #Plantagenet by birth, her father being George Plantagenet (of Malmsey wine fame). This made #edwardiv and #richardiii her uncles. 1/5

I'm on book 6 of Philippa Gregory's Tudor/War of the Roses series. I am loving it! She does a great job of immediately pulling me into each one, and I find that reading these helps me remember the actual events when I read nonfiction. #booksky #margaretpole #kingscurse
