A large, wide tropical fish, about 8-10 inches long and 4-5 inches wide. It is mostly black, with thin horizontal yellow lines near its tail with one yellow line extending across its back to its head. Its tail is white with on vertical yellow line.

Large green coral takes up most of the photo. A triggerfish peeks out through a crack in the middle. The face is gray with orange lips and a broad black vertical stripe across its eye.

Large (2-3 feet across), flat orange coral rises from the ocean floor. The water is slightly murky but you can see blue ocean behind it. A tiny iridescent blue fish swims by in front of it.

Last summer I had the privilege to travel to American Samoa and snorkel in National Marine Sanctuaries. Studying the ocean and preserving rare areas of marine life is only one part of NOAA’s important work. #NOAA #MarineSanctuary #tropicalfish
