A coot on rippling brackish ocean lagoon water reflecting the warm pink and orange colors of the sunrise, with a black hump of a low mountain in the background. For 4 years, I had a mega-commute from my home in Santa Rosa to an office in the SOMA neighborhood (south end of) San Francisco: 90 minutes down, 2 hours back every day by car. In order to beat the traffic, I left home at 5:00 a.m. and stopped at various birding spots along the way. One of my favorites was Rodeo Lagoon, in the Marin Headlands, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately that meant in the winter months, I was often wandering around in the dark. But it also meant that I saw many gorgeous sunrises.
