Watching First Dates & a Polish guy & his date talking about gay scene & he mentioned Pantibar as a place he loves to go but needs to be drunk for confidence.
11 years on from #marref it’s still tough for some lads to come out - but they’re on d’telly, which is great.
@pantibliss.bsky.social
folks (but especially the men) are just straight out with hatred, their misgendering, their misogyny, their fake sudden interest in sports & prisons.
Normal (majority) Irish people who have lived through #marref have seen this playbook & see it is just an attack on friends or loved ones. #speirgorm
New life goal - be eulegised as a "formidable woman"
Sr. Stan's support for marriage equality changed the minds of people on a few doorstep I called to during #marref
We've had record wins for #Marref, Repeal, Connolly but still the main parties for some reason want to lurch to the right. Madness.
Once upon a time I had to spend a half hour looking over spoiled votes (for #MarRef) with Catherine Connolly.
He was? I didn’t see that, but fair enough if so. But I maintain my criticism of him re: #MarRef. Nowhere to be seen. And the outcome in Roscommon was clear.
Ah there’s Ming Flanagan tactically placing himself in victory photos behind Catherine Connolly despite being nowhere to be seen in #Áras25. The MEP who refused to canvass for #MarRef meaning his county was the only county in the country to reject what the rest of the country approved. Get fucked.
TBT #marref and #repeal and we tried to say this but were shushed and told all sides need to be heard and sincerely held beliefs are more important than rights and equality. And now the same people are running for #Áras25 saying they want to defend the constitution. It would make you sick.
I had stilled my anti religion side, thinking people were living & let live, now that #marref & #repeal basically set the temp for Ireland (ie believe what you like, but leave people alone)
Recently I met an Aontú kid & his “handler” & they are full on wanting to apply catholic sharia in Ireland.
The display at St Peter's (aka Vision Centre) over the next month in North Main Street is worth seeing. Many memories provoked. #YesEquality #MarRef
And y'know what: it's a pity, but also very on-brand, for Labour IE to be so transactional about the very little good they were involved in between 2011 and 2016?
Remember #MarRef? What was Howlin's response to the Yes vote? "Let's see SF do that" or similar. Brainworms. #spéirghorm #ireland
I still get goosebumps when I think of the result in Tipperary, a constituency that had consistently voted against any kind of progress until #MarRef scraped by. A shade off 60% voted Yes, turnout was higher than any other recent ref. *WE* did that, ordinary, fed-up Tipp people.

10 years since the historic #marref #marriageequality win. There are several great books about this campaign, not least this one by the late #NoelWhelan
So proud of @mothermarx.bsky.social for all the work they've put into this LGBTQIA+ tour of the collection at the National Museum for the 10th anniversary of #marref www.museum.ie/en-IE/News/W...
I've just been on it and I didn't fall asleep once, even though museums for nerds. You should go!
On the anniversary of #MarRef I thought I might explain something from an LGBT+ pov that really isnt obvious to cishet people simply because we (gay) people hide it.
It's going to be tricky to explain in skeets but lets go!! 🧵 1/?

A column I wrote 10 years ago… a day or two after the referendum result.
My thoughts on why @yesequality2015 won #MarRef so convincingly - it was not a battle of liberalism vs conservatism

10 years since the campaign trail and big day! I’ll never forget those few months #MarRef
10 years ago. As we waited for the #MarRef results at Cork HQ. I’ll never forget that weekend. ❤️🏳️🌈🇮🇪
Poster of 2 hands shaping a heart painted in rainbow colours yellow background with black text that reads "i don't care if i lose friends for sharing this I support Gay Marriage OR, as i like to call it, MARRIAGE"
Happy 10th #marref #marref2015 💞🤟🏽💞🇮🇪🏳️🌈🌈
Is there anyone ten years later still opposing #marref & they don’t think it’s based on homophobia? #speirgorm
Happy 10 years folks. #marref #speirgorm
Can someone check in on John Murray and make sure his marriage is ok?
Two badges, both white with multi coloured lettering. The badge on the left says Yes Equality, the one on the right says Tá Comhionannas which is a rough translation of Yes Equality to Irish.
Happy ten year anniversary!!!

Ten years ago today, Ireland voted Yes to marriage equality. Been reflecting on it a lot this week..
What made the referendum special was how conversations shifted minds. People spoke up despite the backlash, opened perspectives, created space for progress. Dialogue matters. #MarRef
Ten years later - still thankful to the people of Ireland. What a day it finally was! #MarRef

I think the ten year anniversary of #marref is a good time to reflect on what actually happened at that time.
The ways in which our community was hurt, made to plead for our rights, and how our healthy anger sidelined for the sake of presenting an image that didn’t upset cis het people.
It still galls me that we ever put this to a vote. And that we had to genuinely worry that it wouldn't pass. Despite the emphatic result and the subsequent joy, there was so much erasure, indignity and hurt during the campaign. And the job is still not finished.
#MarRef
Celebrating a result.
Ten years after. #MarRef #YesEqualityCork.
RIP Mary, Dave, Siobhan.
The struggle continues.
