Our driver pulled up pretty close to this lion in Masai Mara National Park, Kenya. A lioness was also lying down nearby. This lion is fairly young, as you can see from his light mane (they get darker each year) and, if you look closer, his nose that still has some pink on it. Lion nose eventually turn black. Whenver you see a lion and a lioness off by themselves, that means only one thing: they have been matiing, possibly for 2 or 3 days. They will mate a dozen or more itmes a day, not eating, sleeping, or drinking. Possibly why this boy looks kinda frazzled.

A lioness is walking right to left along the bottom of a steep earth river bank, paws just in the water, which looks very dark in the low light. The exposure is 1/4 second and panned, following the movement of the lioness, catching her clear against a blurred background. Her reflection in the still water is also clear in the panning.
